About Hello Every Sunday

Julie and I first met virtually through our blogs sometime in 2011 and then in real life in 2014 when I lived briefly in Montreal. Although we now live on opposite sides of the world, the things we admire and cherish are similar – forests, cats, peace and quiet and simplicity. We both draw and make things and we both work primarily in Black and White, Julie with ink and I with charcoal. Julie works professionally as a web designer and I work as an editorial illustrator.

Since our respect and interest for each other’s work is mutual, it was but natural that I invited Julie to join me in this project of drawing every day for a year. This project was born out of a desire to break open the boundary of my comfort zone not just by increasing the number of drawings I did in a year but by compelling me to try out new techniques and media that I would not have had the incentive to try out if I wasn’t answerable to that one other person. I am glad my idea for Hello Every Sunday has been embraced with so much enthusiasm.

HOW IT WORKS

We take the time do draw every day and upload the results as a montage every Sunday (hence the title!): one for Bangalore (Priya) and one for Montreal (Julie).

À propos des Beaux dimanches

Julie et moi nous sommes d’abord rencontrées par blogues interposés en 2011, puis en personne en 2014, lors d’un bref séjour à Montréal. Même si un océan nous sépare aujourd’hui, notre amour de la nature et notre penchant certain pour la quiétude et la simplicité nous ont réunies. Toutes deux, nous dessinons et façonnons des choses, surtout en noir et blanc, elle à l’encre et moi au fusain. Julie gagne sa vie comme designer Web, et moi comme illustratrice éditoriale.

Sachant le respect et l’intérêt que nous portions chacune au travail de l’autre, j’ai tout naturellement pensé à Julie pour ce projet — dessiner chaque jour pendant un an — issu du désir de me dépasser en augmentant ma production artistique annuelle et en employant des techniques et des médias que je n’aurais pas pris le temps d’explorer autrement. Je suis ravie que les « Les beaux dimanches » ait suscité tant d’enthousiasme chez Julie.

COMMENT ÇA MARCHE?

Prendre le temps de dessiner chaque jour et publier le tout en ligne tous les dimanches (d’où le titre!) sous forme de montage : l’un pour Bangalore (Priya) et l’autre pour Montréal (Julie).
